Castles Of North Wales

Dolbadarn Castle

North Wales has a wealth of castles and forts dating back over two thousand years to the Romans, who built at least three forts (the remains of two, Segontium and Holyhead, can still be seen) and a marching camp near Capel Curig.

In the 12th and 13th centuries the Welsh Princes built their castles and finally, in the late 13th century, Edward I built his famous ring of castles following his conquest of Gwynedd. This section is divided  between Roman, Welsh and Norman.
